KAYELL ISO PRODUCT RANGE

Managing colour according to the International Standards Organisation (ISO) guidelines is more important than ever now that the Australian printing industry has announced it will be adopting the ISO standard. The ISO standard, which will be known in Australia as: AS/ISO 12647-2, has been widely adopted overseas for many years with success. This standard sets guidelines for both file separations and printing conditions for web, sheet fed and newspaper printing so that matching a digital proof to the press sheet is more predictable and repeatable than ever before.

In March 2008 Kayell Australia was appointed as a certification partner for the AS/ISO 12647-2 standard by the respected print specification body Fogra. This recognition allows Kayell to be one of only two companies in Australia with the ability to assess a printing and pre-press company’s ability to achieve the ISO standard on behalf of Fogra.

For many years Kayell has supplied a range of industry leading colour management technologies designed specifically to achieve best practice conditions throughout your entire production cycle. To this end our product range includes but is not limited to:

FOGRA PSO CERTIFICATION AND THE BENEFITS

Fogra PSO certification is a service offered by Kayell which allows print and media companies to promote their ability to print to the ISO 12647-2 standard and therefore their capability of printing to the highest standards in the industry.

Attaining PSO – ISO 12647-2 is an excellent marketing instrument for print and media companies to demonstrate their quality to the outside world. The PSO defined production process will create a reproducible quality standard from correct file separation to the final printed product resulting in fewer errors and smoother production.

As the industry leading print specialist body, Fogra played a key role in creating the ISO print standard and also provides the chairman of the ISO technical committee for Graphic Technology in Germany, making it the ideal institution to check a company’s ability to match the 12647-2 standard.

The main focus of PSO certification lies in the following areas:

·       Colour Management (Creation and use of ICC-Profiles)
·       Use of Standard Profiles
·       Standardised file creation PDF-X
·       Correct values for dot gain
·       Adjust presses to predefined values
·       Control of elements from prepress to press.

The key components of Fogra’s PSO certification are:

·       The certification is valid for a period of 2 years.
·       The print run examination takes approximately 1 day for each press type
·       Samples taken from a print run of 10,000 sheets for Web and 5000 sheets for sheetfed are submitted for evaluation by both Fogra & BVDM in Germany
·       Upon the successful completion of the test programme your company will be listed on the www.psoinsider.com site, receive a certificate and a certified logo to display on your letterheads or other promotional material

ISO PRINTER PROGRAM FOR AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND

The ISO printer program for Australia and New Zealand (ISO ANZ) is offered for printing companies that wish to promote their ability to comply with the ISO 12647-2 standard without undertaking the entire Fogra PSO certification process.

While certification by Fogra has many benefits we recognise that this is not for everyone, especially companies that may struggle to allocate the necessary press time required to perform Fogra’s print run. While both of these processes offered by Kayell are designed to prove a companies ability to match the ISO 12647-2 standard under production conditions, the key difference is the print run.

The main focus of the ISO ANZ printer program:

·       Use of Standard Profiles
·       Correct values for dot gain
·       Adjust presses to predefined values
·       Control of elements from prepress to press – includes correct viewing conditions and calibration of all devices.

The key components of the ISO ANZ printer program are:

·       For printers with in-house prepress, the following modules are checked: proof production, platemaking, and print run
·       For printers without in-house prepress the following modules are checked: platemaking and print run
·       Submit prints that conform to ISO 12647-2 guidelines. This can be performed on a live production job if measureable print control strips are included.
·       On successful completion companies will receive a certificate and will be listed on the Kayell Australia website and be placed on Frontlines website in New Zealand.
·       An ISO Printer Of Australia and New Zealand will be checked by Kayell Australia each six months for compliance in order to retain the ISO Printer Of Australia and New Zealand status. New Zealand Printers will be checked by Frontline Technologies www.frontline.net.nz
